It seems as though the hip hop scene is going through this new trend where the Houston chopped and screwed sound is becoming big and influencing so many tracks, however, in Austin, there are some Rebels
that are going the other direction and disregard the memo. They have already made one great project and this time they drop another with great timing. Rise is a small 11 track project full of nothing but positivity; the verses on every track are nothing short of impressive and likeable as we see a calm but unique flow being given to us. The delivery on this project is phenomenal and the lyricism is fair but what’s to note as far as lyricism goes are the topics that are chosen: weed, life and females. Although these topics sound so familiar, the Austin Rebels decide to give things a twist and allow weed to be a luxury that can really help, females are not necessarily sexual objects but women that have emotions as well and life should be taken seriously, but be lived positively. The lyrics on this project are indeed impressive but what’s more impressive is the production on this project. The instrumentals are all extremely relaxing and very friendly to the listener’s ears as they give off this semi-90’s hip hop vibe but it’s a feel-good vibe that comes from every track. There’s no need for a heavy bass or a catchy hook that will be spread through the radio, this project is basically amazing beats with amazing lyrics. Right from the start, the looping sample blasts the listener with this chill wave and from that point on the project takes the listener to this tour inside the lyricist’s mind, which happens to be a cleansing pallet a genius mind all with heavy potential. If you’re looking for a project that has a good message, chill lyrics and very relaxing instrumentals then look no further, this project is very much so “smoke friendly.” Download this project and have a listen to the up and coming Austin Rebels. - Daniel.
